In 2002, William McDonough’s along with his colleague, the German chemist Michael Braungart, wrote the book, “Cradle to Cradle, Remaking The Way We Make Things” a manifesto calling for the transformation of human industry through ecologically intelligent design.
Anderson Hardwood Floors is proud to be among the elite hardwood flooring manufactures to have received the coveted Cradle to Cradle™ Silver Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC), a third-party product and design firm founded by architect William McDonough and chemist Dr. Michael Braungart.
The MBDC’s Cradle to Cradle certification process looks at a number of factors that contribute to a product’s overall environmental impact and suitability. This includes the use of environmentally safe and healthy materials and a construction that incorporates extended life cycle expectations. Other key criteria include a corporate philosophy that embraces social responsibility and a product design that utilizes sustainable and, preferably, renewable raw materials that can ultimately be recycled or composted.
